Developing interactive videoconferencing across the curriculum in the UK and around the world |
Global-Leap/Videoconferencing in the Classroom Teachers Association (GLVCTA) is a not for profit organisation funded through annual subscription from UK school members.
Global-Leap/Videoconferencing in the Classroom Teachers Association continues to work actively to identify, initiate, facilitate, maintain, support, pilot, promote, co-ordinate, deliver and extend a wide range of content from a variety of Global-Leap endpoints, both in the UK and internationally. This support (practical and pedagogical) is largely based on good-will.
Our aims are to promote the effective and integrated use of Videoconferencing in the Classroom by:
PLEASE NOTE: Some UK content providers (mainly, but not exclusively national museums or galleries) that we support have access to funding for their VC programmes via their own education budgets. Because these sessions are funded they can can be booked by subscribing schools at no additional charge. Other GLVCTA providers do not have access to any source of funding and therefore some may choose to make a nominal charge to schools towards their connectivity, preparation and time costs for individual sessions. Such charges, where they are applicable will be clearly indicated at the time of booking, and are between the school and the individual provider, not payable to Global-Leap.
However GLVCTA aims, as far as possible to cover the whole cost of many of our sponsored sessions by paying the freelancer and covering other costs including studio time and connectivity. For some sessions this GLVCTA sponsorship is limited to covering the cost of the first session to the member school. Schools booking second and subsequent sessions may be asked to contibute towards the cost of those sessions. This to ensure that each subscribing school has equal access to the full range of opportunities. GLVCTA aim to cover the full cost of as many sessions as possible within the funding/budget available.
NB Arranging, supporting and hosting an invited guest or presenter to deliver a days VC opportunities may cost GLVCTA from £500 - £1000 or more depending what is required and involved both on the day and the planning and preparation for the day.

Please observe the following before booking any VC activity. This will ensure a successful experience for both you and for your far end teacher or content provider.
Summary:
Global-Leap was originally set up with DfES funding to identify, develop and pilot a VC content programme, and support classroom teachers to access that programme. Because it was centrally funded, it was designed to be a freely accessible resource for teachers.
Today the resource is self funded via UK school subscription.
