1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS and CONDITIONS
Welcome to the Global-Leap/Videoconferencing in the Classroom Teachers Association (G-LVCTA) and the website provided to you by Global-Leap.
By joining the Association, you agree to the following terms and conditions set out for all members of the Association.
The management of
GLVCTA has the right to make any changes or modifications to published material or the online resources presented on the website www.global-leap.org. The Terms and Conditions can be changed, if necessary, from time to time without prior notice or reference to the full membership.
Please read them carefully. You can read the most current version of the Terms and Conditions at any time at: http://www.global-leap.org/termsandconditions.php
IF, AT ANY TIME, YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM FURTHER USE OF THE ASSOCIATION RESOURCES. HOWEVER MEMBERS WILL NOT RECEIVE A REFUND INPART OR INFULL IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO ACCESS THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE AS A MEMBER OF THE ASSOCIATION. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MEMBERS TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CONTACT DETAILS ARE UP TO DATE AND ACCURATE. G-LVCTA WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NON USE OF RESOURCE AS A RESULT OF OUT OF DATE OR INCORRECT CONTACT INFORMATION PROVIDED BY YOU, INCLUDING ANY EMAIL ADDRESSES.
2. DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSOCIATION
The Association Resources provided to you are for the communication, funding, promotion and development of education content and videoconference activities among users of the Association (herein called "Members") in respect of information, data, text, files, photographs, graphics, software, sound, hyperlinks, live lessons or other materials submitted to the Association (herein collectively referred to as "Content") and provides Members the capability of promoting and/or managing an online network of schools and/or to participate in one or more communities and live activities and lessons. The Resource is funded by UK member subscription, to enable the administrators to fund and deliver activities, events, news letters and bulletins, on-line resources etc. Members receive a standard Resource. UK school subscription is based on each individual UK school or location using the resource paying an annual membership subscription. Where a subscription applies members are discouraged from sharing one subscription amongst many schools. This is regarded as a breach of the membership terms and conditions of the association. This breach in the terms and conditions would require the identified member to leave the association. In addition the association may from time to time offer resources/activities which might require members to cover the cost of other customised, premium and fee-based resources or activities.
The Association contemplates three categories, each of which has certain rights and responsibilities: director/administrator, content provider and association members.
The director/administrator has the responsibility for the management of the association and the day to day management of the resources of the association. This might include changes and updates that will be introduced to the members of the association when necessary.
A content provider (museum, gallery, archive, teacher or freelance presenter) works with the administrators of the association to support the ability to add, edit or delete any Content on www.global-leap.org or to modify or cancel the activities presented on the website. Freelance presenters and invited guests are supported and funded to deliver live interactive VC activities by arrangement to G-LVCTA members.
Any Associate member (teacher or school), who joins the association network is responsible for ensuring that they or teachers at their school comply with the Terms and Conditions of the Association and are aware of the rules and guidelines for the Teachers’ Association.
All Members are required to acknowledge the work of the Global-Leap Videoconferencing in the Classroom Teachers' Association (Not for Profit) (GLVCTA) in casestudies, workshops, presentations, applications for funding or other publicity which helps promote their use of videoconferencing in the classroom. Members who fail to acknowledge GLVCTA will be asked to remove their contact details from the classroom network and will not have access to GLVCTA events and activities.
Please remember that many of the activities provided by GLVCTA are subject to Copyright and GLVCTA reserves the right to seek legal advice when the intellectual copyright of the GLVCTA has been infringed.
In order to use the Resource, you must obtain access to suitable classroom videoconferencing equipment and connectivity and the World Wide Web. The Association can advise schools about the wide range of resources available but cannot make particular recommendations because location conditions and circumstances might vary. All equipment necessary to make such a connection to the Web including a computer, codec or other access device are the responsibility of the association member. Members using the association network should ensure that the information they present on the school network is accurate. Members must acknowledge and understand that G-LVCTA is not required to provide any assistance including any technical or connectivity support in connection with the videoconferencing technology and that your use of the association resources is entirely at your own risk.
3. USER REGISTRATION, PASSWORD AND SECURITY
In order to use the resources provide by the association, you are required to complete a network registration form containing details about your school and the name, e-mail address, plus contact person details and agree to certain conditions. In consideration of the use of the Resource, you agree to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about your school as submitted on the registration form. If any information provided is not true, accurate, current or complete, or G-LVCTA has reasonable grounds to suspect that the information is untrue, inaccurate, not current or complete, then G-LVCTA shall have the right to suspend or terminate your right to use the Resource and refuse to provide any current or future Resource to you.
You acknowledge that G-LVCTA reserves the right to refuse to grant you or your school access to the resources of the association. You agree to be responsible for all acts and omissions that occur in connection with your password. You agree to use the information you have access to within the network in a responsible way.
4. COMMUNICATION AND SUCCESSFUL VIDEOCONFERENCE LINKS
The basis for successful and effective videoconferencing activities, big and small, is based on good communication. Good communication starts with sharing sufficient information to enable members to make contact without resorting to additional research that wastes members time and creates frustration and disappointment.
Identify your school clearly in all email contacts. All emails should include sufficient contact information for quick and easy communication. All Members should also ensure that their videoconferencing equipment and/or communication technology can make successful calls. Members should make every effort to ensure that all the users of the equipment can communicate sufficient and accurate information for a successful link. Members should be aware that providing poor or inaccurate information about methods or types of connectivity and communication technology can lead to frustrastion and disappointment and loss of goodwill from partner colleagues and providers.
New Members will be asked to test and demonstrate their connectivity to the Global-Leap office in the first instance. This is to ensure successful VC experiences for your school and a successful experience for a freelance teacher/provider/other colleagues involved in supporting your school.
If in doubt seek advice from your colleagues, network manager, local resource managers or national projects. The association management might be available for initial advice but advice will be limited to knowledge, experience and the particular circumstances related to each members location and resource.
5. CONTENT PROVISION
During the last 12 Years Mike Griffith, the Director of Global-Leap has identified, supported and faciliated the development of videoconferencing content for the classroom. This has included a range of support which has included inservice training, far end support and in some instances the loan of videoconference equipment. Lesson delivery and lesson content provision available to the association is provided by content providers and funded and support by G-LVCTA. Our freelance content providers and the locations providing lessons are freelance/independent of G-LVCTA. Accordingly, you acknowledge that all Content whether publicly posted or privately transmitted is the sole responsibility of the person from whom such Content originated. Since G-LVCTA does not control the Content, you understand that it does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such Content. You further understand that by using the Association, you may be exposed to Content that is the opinion of the presenter and is presented live during a videoconference and should not be recreated without the permission of the teacher/presenter. Videoconference sessions should not be recorded to avoid any breach of copyright, which might arise.
You agree not to use the Association:
(a) for illegal purposes;
(b) to upload, post, publish, transmit, reproduce any (i) Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party; (ii) Content that violates or infringes in any way upon the rights of others, including Content which is inaccurate, false, hateful, threatening, abusive, offensive, harassing, unlawful, defamatory, libelous, tortuous, slanderous, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, vulgar, obscene, profane, or is racially, ethnically or is otherwise objectionable; (iii) Content that is pornographic, sexually explicit or contains nudity; (iv) Content that you do not have a right to transmit under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationships; (v) unauthorized or unsolicited advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail", "spam", "chain letters" or any other solicitation to other Members except in those areas of the resource that may be designated for such purposes; (vi) Content which contains software, software viruses, including Trojan horses, bots, worms or other harmful or destructive components or features designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software, hardware or telecommunications equipment; or (vii) Content that consists of links to other websites that contain Content not in compliance with the Terms and Conditions of the Association;
(c) to engage in conduct which in G-LVCTA sole discretion restricts or inhibits any other user from using or enjoying the Resource;
(d) to harm minors in any way;
(e) to interfere with or disrupt the Resource or servers or networks connected to the Resource, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of networks connected to the Resource;
(f) to collect or store personal data about other Members;
(g) to stalk or otherwise harass another Member; or
(h) to promote or provide instructions, information or advice about illegal activities, promoting physical harm or personal injury against any individual or group.
G-LVCTA Funded Content: Many content sessions/providers supported and funded by GLVCTA do not receive any central funding, (except in-kind practical support /advice and time and equipment loans from Global-Leap, and nominal payments allocated from GLVCTA towards session costs incurred by the unfunded content provider). Schools must be mindful of the needs of all our member schools. Schools should restrict their booking of G-LVCTA funded activites to no more than 10 at the beginning of a new school year or a new term. Schools wishing to buy additional sessions will be asked to purchase an additional subscription/s to cover these additional costs. In some instances it may be that subscribing schools will be restricted in their uptake of these sessions by numbers of sessions per school per annual subscription. Schools are welcome to purchase further sessions, which can be booked online in the usual way. The individual provider or freelancer concerned (not GLVCTA) will invoice the school directly. The cost of additional sessions is also shown in the text description on the booking page at the time of booking. The aim of this restriction is so that, for example if GLVCTA identify and allocate funding to cover 15 sessions from a particular freelance provider, we would like at least 15 subscribing schools to benefit from that investment, rather than just a couple of schools use all 15 sessions.
Similarly, some GLVCTA sessions are restricted to one per school, due to the availability of the visiting speaker (for example an MP, a representative from a charity, an author visiting for a day etc.). If this is the case, schools are requested to only book one session in the first instance until the demand for these sessions has been ascertained. Schools wishing to book multiple sessions with particular speakers should discuss their requests with GLVCTA. It may be possible to accommodate you, and enquiries can be made with regards to re-booking the speaker or finding similar content for you. Our speakers generally prefer to speak to a selection of schools spread around the country, rather than deliver 4 or 5 consecutive sessions to the same school. We suggest that if you have several classes in your school interested in a particular activity, why not book one session for one class, and then ask them to present what they have learned to the other classes.
7. CONTENT SUBMITTED TO G-LVCTA
Content available on the Association website is provided by content providers, freelance presenters and guests who are independent of G-LVCTA. However G-LVCTA supports, funds, hosts and provides equipment/studio space to facilitate the content or activity. Accordingly, G-LVCTA does not claim ownership of the Content. The presentation of the content or activity and is the sole responsibility of the presenting location. Members must take responsibility for the value that the session brings to their lesson or school.
8. MODIFICATIONS AND DISSOLUTION OF THE RESOURCE AND THE ASSOCIATION
G-LVCTA reserve the right from time to time, and at any time, to modify, suspend or discontinue the Resource (or any part thereof) with or without notice to you and you agree that neither G-LVCTA nor the Content Provider shall be liable to you or to any third party as a result of any modification, suspension or discontinuance of the Resource.
If at anytime the management of the Association decide that there is not sufficient funding to cover all the costs related to the Association the management reserves the right to dissolve the Association with immediate affect.
Members will receive notice in writing outlining the reasons for the dissolution of the Association. If this unfortunate situation arises the members will not be entitled to receive any membership subscription refund, inpart or infull.
Any existing funding which are in the Association bank account will be used to settle ongoing costs and contracts which may be continue to be required after the dissolution of the association.
